Your Yearly Stucco Maintenance Checklist

If you’re not sure how to best care for your stucco, check out this handy checklist we’ve put together to make your yearly maintenance a breeze.

  1. Annual Inspection: At the start of the year, visually inspect your stucco for signs of wear and tear. The ground and roofline are common problem areas, so pay close attention to these spots. Cracks, chips, and other damage should be noted so that you can pass the information along to a stucco repair company.
  2. Spring Clean: Spring is a great time for stucco cleaning. We recommend working with a professional company that knows how to handle stucco instead of trying to clean it yourself.
  3. Repaint: If your stucco is starting to fade or become discolored, consider stucco painting to give it a fresh, uniform appearance. We suggest aiming for repainting in the fall or winter when there’s a break in the typical Florida humidity.
  4. Gutter Cleaning: The gutters channel water away from the foundation and siding, so make sure you have yours cleaned at least once per year to prevent water from discoloring or weakening your stucco.
  5. Efflorescence Check: Efflorescence is a white, powdery substance that can show up on stucco and brick surfaces when there’s excessive moisture. Every six months, check for efflorescence, and if you notice any, make sure you contact a professional to address the underlying moisture problem.
  6. Landscaping: Plants that grow close to your stucco can rub against it and cause discoloration, so make sure that you keep any shrubs trimmed back and that your flower beds don’t get overgrown.
  7. Professional Inspection: It’s a good idea to have a stucco professional inspect your home at least once per year to make sure that there are no underlying issues. They can also make suggestions for additional maintenance steps you may want to take, depending on your unique home.
